If you are permitted to continue working after your normal retirement date, your pension will be based on the greater of:
- your pensionable service and final pensionable pay at your actual date of retirement, or
- your pension calculated at your normal retirement date increased to allow for its late payment and shorter than expected period of payment.
Whilst a request for late retirement will not be reasonably refused, a number of factors must be taken into account including your health and fitness, the availability of suitable work as well as your competence and performance.
Can I draw my pension and continue working for the RNLI?
Yes, if this suits all parties. It might be possible for you to stay in the same job, transfer to another role (perhaps with less responsibility) or consider part-time working as a way to phase in your retirement. It is essential that you ensure your line manager is supportive and should you wish to find out more you can arrange an initial discussion with your HR business team or contact the People Admin Team.
