You and the Scheme

The RNLI 1983 Contributory Pension Scheme is a 'final salary' or 'defined benefit' pension scheme. It closed to contributions on 30 September 2012. If you contributed to this Scheme, you will be entitled to a pension. That pension will be linked to the length of time you contributed to the Scheme and your RNLI salary.

The Scheme stopped sending annual pension forecasts in 2011. If you need a pension forecast, you can contact WTW. The forecast will confirm the value of your annual pension. It will also confirm how much tax-free cash you can take from the pension, if you wish. WTW will need you to confirm the age/date you would like to be paid the pension from so that they can calculate your pension.

Most Scheme members can be paid this pension from age 60, without it being reduced for being paid 'early'. Some members (employed lifeboat crew) can be paid this pension from age 55 without it being reduced. A small number of members can draw their pension from age 65 without a reduction.

If UK Scheme members wish, you can receive these pension payments while you are still working.
